Pune: Sancheti Hospital has completed 60 years of service and marked the milestone with the inauguration of the Sancheti AI Innovation Lab, a new 150-bed Sancheti Advanced OrthoCare Hospital, and multiple technology-driven initiatives aimed at transforming patient care, diagnostics and rehabilitation.
As part of its anniversary celebrations, the hospital launched the Sancheti AI Innovation Lab, the Sancheti Artificial Intelligence Department, and the AIMD (Artificial Intelligence MD) platform.
This integrated AI ecosystem introduces specialised tools for patients, orthopaedic surgeons, physiotherapists, anaesthetists, and medical students, supporting diagnosis, rehabilitation planning, clinical decision-making, and medical education.

Sancheti AI Innovation Lab drives next-generation healthcare
The AI programme builds on Sancheti’s early adoption of orthopaedic AI tools, which were introduced in 2023 and have since been used by more than 8,000 doctors across India.
The new AI platforms will expand into multiple medical specialties including neurology and cardiology, while also offering patients interactive tools for daily queries, home rehabilitation, and post-surgical support.
Established on 12 December 1965 by renowned orthopaedic surgeon Dr K H Sancheti – recipient of the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan – the hospital has evolved from a 10-bed facility into a national centre of excellence treating lakhs of patients annually.
Sancheti Advanced OrthoCare facility features advanced operating suites, multidisciplinary critical care, high-end diagnostic systems, precision-based robotic rehabilitation, and expanded specialty clinics. With this addition, Sancheti’s combined capacity now exceeds 300 beds.
Sancheti also unveiled SANBO, an AI-inspired mascot symbolising movement and innovation. SANBO will support patient engagement, rehabilitation communication, community programmes and digital outreach.

Robotic Rehabilitation
The hospital has introduced one of India’s most advanced robotic rehabilitation programmes, demonstrating measurable improvements in mobility, pain management, neuro-rehabilitation and sports injury recovery.
“These technologies have redefined recovery by ensuring precision, consistency and measurable outcomes,” said Dr Darshita Narwani, Head of Physiotherapy.
“Completing 60 years is not just a milestone – it is a reaffirmation of our purpose,” said Dr Parag Sancheti. “We are committed to advancing healthcare through cutting-edge technology, expanding our services and ensuring that every patient feels cared for with dignity and humanity.”
Head of Academic Research Division, Dr Ashok Shyam, noted that Sancheti was among the early adopters of ortho-focused AI solutions. “With the Sancheti AI Innovation Lab, we will drive new medical innovations. Technologies like AI will not replace doctors but help them offer better care,” he said.
